Permission To Acquire Status Of Residence

A child who was born in Japan as a non-Japanese or an expatriate, etc. who stays in Japan without officially leaving is allowed to stay in Japan for 60 days from the date of birth or expatriation (loss) of Japanese nationality without acquiring residency status.

However, if you want to stay in Japan for more than 60 days, you need to apply for permission to acquire residency status within 30 days after the occurrence of such an event, and then obtain residency status along with permission to stay. That is called APPLICATION FOR PERMISSION TO ACQUIRE STATUS OF RESIDENCE.
