Application For Extension Of Period Of Stay
A period of stay is determined along with the type of residency status during entry or when changing residency status.
A non-Japanese person is allowed to stay in Japan during the determined period of stay.
Therefore if you want to stay in Japan beyond that period, you must apply for an extension.
If you wish to extend the period of stay, you need to make an application prior to the expiration date of the current period of stay.
An immigration bureau accepts an application two months before the date of expiration. If you wish to apply before that, you need to attach a document explaining the reason why you need to leave for a different country before or after the expiration date.
